Steve Hood graduated from the University of
Arkansas in 1997, and has been practicing law for 12 years.
While in law school, he was an extern for U.S. District Court
Judge Cynthia Imbrogno, writing federal court decisions. After
graduation, he worked for four years at the Social Security Administration.
At the beginning of his employment with Social Security, he received
three weeks of intensive training regarding the agency'as regulations
and Rulings. For his first two years with Social Security, he
wrote decisions for Administrative Law Judges in Denver, Colorado,
where he learned how the hearing process works inside the nation's
Offices of Hearings & Appeals.
Mr. Hood went on to work for two years at the
Office of General Counsel in Seattle, Washington, where he wrote
legal briefs defending ALJ decisions that had been appealed to
the Federal District Court level. There, he was trained well
in the federal case law regarding Social Security disability
cases, and was well trained in issue spotting.
Since leaving the government, Mr. Hood has practiced
law for 12 years both in Seattle and in Bellingham, Washington,
focusing entirely on representing claimants seeking disability
benefits. Representing clients has allowed him the opportunity
to learn all the intricacies and difficulties of representing
claimants at all levels of the application process.
As a solo
practitioner, he understands that many attorneys simply don't
have the time to commit to learning all the federal laws regarding
disability, and don't have to time to commit to writing appellate
briefs at the federal level.
Mr. Hood has two undergraduate degrees, one
in English literature, and one in journalism. He was a reporter
for two different college newspapers at WSU, and graduated Cum
Laude.
Mr. Hood reads and watches movies, and is politically active with Washington
Public Campaigns, which is a group trying to bring public-financed
elections to Washington state.
Mr. Hood is a member of NOSSCR
(National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives)
Mr. Hood is a member of the ACLU of Washington
Mr. Hood is a member of the Washington Bar Association
